Welcoming a new baby into the world is such a joyous time! But it’s also a stressful time especially for the new moms themselves. I remember the time right after giving birth to my daughter. I received so many congratulations, and had many people asking me if I needed anything. But, here’s the thing. I was to overwhelmed to even process what I might need or enjoy as a gift! Giving birth and raising a newborn is a stressful time!

Well Today I am going to share with you, 9 thoughtful gift ideas that you can use to brighten up any new mom’s day. Most of these gifts you can even have mailed directly to the new family. I guarantee you that any mom would LOVE one of these thoughtful and useful gifts.

Gift Card to Her Favorite Restaurant

When I asked my local moms group what they would consider a great gift for a new mom, this suggestion was one of the most popular! It’s easy to see why. The last thing a new mom wants to worry about is what’s for dinner. You can give her peace of mind by getting her a gift card to her favorite. restaurant. Every new family struggles with finding the time to cook dinner, clean up, and take care of a newborn. So it’s a no-brainer that restaurant gift cards was one of the most suggested gifts to get a new mom!  A super thoughtful gift you can give is to send them a gift card to their favorite restaurant!

Bonus Gift Idea: Home Cooked Dinner

If you want to go with a more personalized gift, consider dropping off a home cooked meal for the new mom! I can personally attest to how thoughtful a home cooked meal is. After giving birth to my daughter, my lovely aunt brought a huge homemade lasagna. This lasagna isn’t your typical lasagna. It was one of my favorite meals growing up. For years I had asked for the recipe. Well not only did my aunt bring me the coveted lasagna, she also (FINALLY) gave me her recipe. Hands down one of my favorite gifts!

Shopping Spree

So, not an ACTUAL shopping spree but another great idea (and a highly suggested one) for a new mom is a gift card to her favorite store! I know that I spent many nights scrolling on the internet buying newborn supplies (or the occasional non-essential item.) Many other new moms also find themselves enjoying the convenience of shopping online while caring for their newborn. If you really want to help the new momma out, consider gifting her with a store gift card! Amazon is my personal recommendation if you aren’t quite sure which store she would like a gift card to. She will have plenty of options on Amazon!

Slippers

Who doesn’t love to feel pampered? New mommas are no different, and some would say they need extra pampering! Odds are she will be hanging around the house for the first few weeks after giving birth to her baby. What better gift to give her than a new fluffy pair of slippers? These Jessica Simpson slippers are currently rated as an Amazon #1 best-seller. They also come in 9 different colors, so you are sure to find the perfect pair for the new mom. Im partial to the Ivory pair.

Luxurious Robe

Not only do slippers offer an extra level of comfort but so does a new robe! Comfy clothing during postpartum recovery is an absolute must have. If she is a breastfeeding mom, she will be extra thankful for an easy clothing option for the round the clock feed sessions. If you want to wow the new mom why not gift her this super lux robe from Ugg? I promise you it will make her late nights a little more bearable.

Bath Bombs

Who doesn’t love a nice warm bath after a long day? I can tell you that one person who will love it is a new mom! A great addition to any bath is a stress relieving bath bomb. Filled with amazing essential oils, these bath bombs are sure to delight any new mom. Plus they come in cute packaging that is ready to gift!

Postpartum Care Kit

Regardless if she had an easy birth or difficult birth, every new mom is working on healing her body after delivery. You can help her out by sending her a postpartum care kit like the one found here. This Starter Kit includes: 4 disposable mesh underwear, 4 ice maxi padsicle pads, perineal cooling pad liners (24 ct), perineal healing foam, and a caddy to keep everything nice and organized.

Candles

Personally, there’s not much that makes me more happy than a nice smelling house. There’s something about walking through the door and instantly smelling your favorite scent. Mine happens to be anything pumpkin or vanilla. Not only do they smell nice but candles are a great gift to promote relaxation. These Chesapeake Bay candles have thousands of 5 star reviews on Amazon and come in multiple sizes!

Keepsake Jewelry

I think this dainty initial necklace is a perfect gift for the minimalist momma. I love the look of the hand stamped letters. Plus, this piece of jewelry also comes with a gift bag and notecard which makes it easy to gift!

Breastfeeding Snack Package

When I gave birth to my daughter a year and a half ago, I was not prepared for how HUNGRY I would be as we started our breastfeeding journey. I have always heard the saying “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” but I can tell you that the saying applies to a breastfeeding momma as well! I love that this box has a mix of sweet and savory snacks.

Clean Her House

My amazing mother and sister took the time to completely clean our house and room before my husband and I came back from the hospital with our daughter. I cannot express how much this simple gesture meant to my husband and I. If you haven’t heard, giving birth is exhausting, both physically and mentally. The last thing a new mom wants to worry about is keeping a clean home. A great F R E E gift to give her is to offer your time to clean her home. If cleaning is not your strong suit you can always hire a professional cleaning service in your area. Surprisingly professional cleaners are not terribly expensive (at least in my area) especially if you are only using them for a one time cleaning.

Watch the Baby

If you are close to the new mother, offer to watch her newborn while she takes a shower and gets ready for the day. That hour or two of self-care will do wonders for her. Knowing that you are able to get a few things done while also knowing that your baby is safe and taken care of, is a treat that any new mom would appreciate. Plus its a gift to yourself (the giver), as you get to soak up all of the newborn snuggles!

**(Please understand that in this era of social distancing, you need to use judgement, and keep safety a priority. Only offer this if you are in the new mom’s circle of contacts.)

Find What Fits

Whether you choose to gift a new mom one of the gifts above, or you decide on something different, I promise that she will be grateful for the thought and effort you put in to making her day just a little bit brighter. If you are still stumped with what to gift a new mom you can always ask her! Some women would much rather you ask what they actually wants than buying them a gift that will gather dust. Find what fits her personality and lifestyle and you will be on your way to making a new mom very happy.

Katie

  1. Yes, one of my favourites is a cooked meal for my family. We also had an anonymous gift of a weekly fruit and veggie box delivered to our door for six months. It was the loveliest thing and I ended up continuing on with the delivery after it finished because it made me realise how awesome it was to have it!

  2. Great ideas! Having worked for many first time parents with newborns, those homemade meals always make moms happy. That’s one less thing that she has to worry about.

  3. These are fantastic ideas! I’ve worked with moms with newborns and I can say that meals are very much appreciated. That’s one less thing that they have to worry about.
